How It Works

How it's calculated

This tool draws on long-used height and gender based formulas, similar to the charts doctors have relied on for decades. Instead of naming one exact number, it gives you a range. That range respects a simple truth: healthy bodies come in different shapes, frames, and muscle levels, so one fixed target could never fit everyone fairly.

How to interpret your result

Treat this range as a rough guide, not a strict target to chase. Your frame size, how much muscle you carry, and where your body naturally stores weight all shift where a healthy number lands for you personally. Someone with a muscular build might sit above the upper number and still be lean and healthy. Pairing this range with a body fat estimate paints a much clearer picture than either number alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the lower end of the range always healthier?
Not at all. The lower end suits smaller frames and lower muscle mass. Someone with a bigger frame or more muscle can be perfectly healthy at the upper end, or even slightly above it.
What about frame size and muscle mass?
This calculator can't measure either directly, which is exactly why it hands you a range instead of a single number. If you lift weights regularly, expect your healthy weight to sit toward the higher end of what it shows you.
Should athletes pay attention to this number?
Less than most people. Athletes and heavily muscled individuals often sit above this range while carrying very little body fat. For that group, body fat percentage and performance markers tell a far more useful story.
